謙譲語 — お + V ます-stem + します (kenjougo — o + V masu-stem + shimasu) — Lowering yourself so the other person is raised
You speak about your own actions modestly, and that lifts the listener up.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
The sentence you need on day one at work is this one — 「ネパールから まいりました。◯◯と もうします。」
Meaning
謙譲語 is used when you talk about your own actions (and your own company's).
How to attach
- The regular pattern is お + the verb with ます dropped + します — 持ちます → お持ちします, 送ります → お送りします, 手伝います → お手伝いします.
- For 「する」 verbs it is ご, not お: 案内します → ご案内します, 説明します → ご説明します, 連絡します → ご連絡します.
- The most-used verbs have their own special forms, and those have to be memorised: 行く・来る → まいります, いる → おります, する → いたします, 言う → もうします, 食べる・飲む・もらう → いただきます, 見る → はいけんします, 知って いる → ぞんじて おります, 行く・聞く・訪ねる → うかがいます.
- One small thing — short verbs like 見ます and います do not take the お〜します pattern, so use their special forms instead.
Versus what you know
Which to pick? If you do the action, 謙譲語; if the other person does it, 尊敬語 (お + ます dropped + に なります).
Watch out
The biggest mistake is putting 謙譲語 on the other person's actions: you cannot say 「部長、まいりますか」, that needs the 尊敬語 「いらっしゃいますか」.

💡 Hint: 見る has its own special humble form.
見る → はいけんします (拝見します). ご覧に なります is for when the boss does the looking.
