動詞のグループ 1・2・3 (doushi no guruupu 1 2 3) — Verb Groups 1, 2, 3
Before making the te-form, learn to sort verbs into three groups.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Japanese verbs fall into three groups. Group 1 (五段 / u-verbs) — the dictionary form ends in an u-sound: 飲む (nomu), 書く (kaku), 話す (hanasu), 買う (kau). Group 2 (一段 / ru-verbs) — usually いる or える followed by る: 食べる (taberu), 見る (miru), おきる (okiru). Group 3 — only two irregular verbs: する (suru, to do) and 来る (kuru, to come). You can only build the correct te-form once you know a verb's group, so this sorting comes first.
