The た形 is the plain (casual) past form of a verb. The rules are exactly the same as the て-form, but replace て with た and で with だ. Group 2 (ichidan): drop る, add た — 食べる→食べた. Group 1 changes by the final sound: う・つ・る → った (買う→買った), む・ぶ・ぬ → んだ (飲む→飲んだ), く → いた (書く→書いた), ぐ → いだ, す → した (話す→話した). Irregular: する→した, 来る→来た, and 行く→行った (not 行いた).
