〜の段 (~no dan) — (regarding) the matter of ~
A fixed form in apology letters and formal notices that points, very politely, at 'the matter of our fault'.

Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
In Japan, if an online order arrives wrong or a company leaks personal data, its website or letter carries an apology like this: 「ご迷惑をおかけしました段、深くお詫び申し上げます」— 'we deeply apologise for the matter of having caused you trouble.'
Meaning
「段(だん)」here means 'that matter, that point'.
How to attach
- Attach 「の段」after a noun (失礼の段・ご無礼の段); after a verb use the Vた form directly — usually the polite 「〜ました段」(遅くなりました段).
- It is almost always followed by 「お詫び申し上げます」or 「ご容赦ください(くださいますようお願い申し上げます)」.
Versus what you know
N3It works like the 「〜こと」or 「〜点」(ご迷惑をおかけした点), but it is an old fixed letter form and sounds like a much deeper bow.
Watch out
The key rule: it appears only in formal writing about your own side's fault or rudeness — say 「寝坊した段、ごめんね」to a friend and it sounds very strange.
Also
You may rarely have to write it yourself; the goal is to recognise it at once when reading: 'this is an apology sentence.'

かずかずのしつれいのだん、なにとぞごようしゃくださいますようおねがいもうしあげます。
