〜からして (~kara shite) — even judging from / starting with
One small thing gives the whole away — usually in a complaining tone.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- Seeing a dirty door on a new restaurant, you tell a friend 「あの店は、入り口からして汚い」(that place is dirty starting from the entrance — inside must be worse).
- The door is not the real point, yet that one small thing has already judged the whole shop.
Meaning
- 「〜からして」= you point at one small thing, not even the main issue, and say 'if even this is like that, the rest must be the same'.
- Second use: 'first of all, starting from here', when listing reasons: 「第一、予算からして足りない」(for a start, even the budget is short).
How to attach
Always N + からして — never a verb or adjective (× 遅刻するからして).
Versus what you know
- 「〜からすると」is a neutral guess ('judging from the symptoms, a cold'); 「からして」is its sharper brother — the push 'this one thing says it all', and usually displeasure.
- N3The 'even this small thing' feeling of 「〜さえ」lives inside it.
Watch out
What follows is mostly a negative (−) evaluation — a complaint, a criticism, 'this plan won't work'.
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)
あの店は、入り口からして汚い。
あのみせは、いりくちからしてきたない。
That shop is dirty starting from the entrance (so inside must be worse).
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 入り口 = entrance (not the main thing, a small example) → we attach 「からして」: from the entrance already → then the negative assessment: 汚い.
新しい店長は、話し方からして厳しそうだ。
あたらしいてんちょうは、はなしかたからしてきびしそうだ。
Just from the way they talk, the new manager seems strict.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 話し方 = way of talking → 「からして」: even just looking at this one thing → then a (somewhat negative) guess: 厳しそうだ.
この計画は無理だ。第一、予算からして足りない。
このけいかくはむりだ。だいいち、よさんからしてたりない。
This plan is impossible. For a start, even the budget is not enough.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 予算 = budget → 「第一」 starts the count → 「からして」: starting right from here (the rest has problems too) → then the negative: 足りない.
Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)
「彼は服装_だらしない。」— fill the blank (you can tell even from his clothes).
💡 Hint: One small thing tells all...
N + からして. 服装からしてだらしない = sloppy even in his clothes (the rest is surely the same).
In which sentence is 「からして」wrong?
💡 Hint: What comes before からして?
からして attaches only to a noun; 「遅刻する」is a verb, so it is wrong.
「彼は話し方_失礼だ。ほかもきっとひどい。」— 'even this one thing shows the rest'. Which?
💡 Hint: N + _ — 'this one thing says it all'.
N + からして = the whole judged from one small example (usually negative). からには・からこそ・からといって do not attach directly to a noun.
