    さて (sate) — now then

Closing one part and opening the next — これで授業を終わります。さて、来週の予定ですが……

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    文1。 + さて、 + 文2(新しい話題)。

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

In 硬 settings — speeches, class, meetings, the news: a teacher's 「これで授業を終わります。さて、来週の予定ですが……」, or 「さて、次は天気予報です」on the news.

    Meaning

「さて」= 'now then' — closes one part and opens the next part or topic.

    How to attach

It starts the sentence, with a 「、」after it

    Versus what you know

N3「ところで」and 「それはそうと」also change the subject, but they are spoken; さて belongs to speeches, classes and programmes.

    Watch out

    • Changing the subject with 「さて」in a chat with friends sounds rather formal, like giving a speech — use 「ところで」「それはそうと」there.
    • But 「さて、そろそろ帰ろうか」— a 'right, now…' as you get going on something yourself — is normal with friends too.

    きょうのニュースはいじょうです。さて、つぎはあしたのてんきです。

That's all for today's news. Now, here is tomorrow's weather.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) ニュースは以上です = the news is over → 「さて」 = now (a broadcast word) → the next part: 明日の天気.
