    〜を通じて (~o tsūjite) — throughout / through (via)

Throughout a whole period, or by way of a go-between — 「一年を通じて」= all year round, 「友人を通じて」= through a friend.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    N N(期間)+ を通じて → ずっと同じ状態
    N N(人・組織・活動)+ を通じて → 間に入るもの
    N N + を通じての + N

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

It is the word of tourist leaflets, company speeches, the news and formal email.

    Meaning

    • ① Time — 「一年を通じて」= all year round: it stayed the same through the whole period.
    • ② Go-between — 「友人を通じて」= through a friend: by way of a person, organisation or activity in the middle.

    How to attach

    • Always N + を通じて
    • In ① a fairly long period comes first: 一年・四季・一生・10年間
    • In ② a person, organisation or activity in the middle: 先輩を通じて (via a senior), 大使館を通じて (via the embassy)
    • Before a noun: 「を通じての N」(大使館を通じての連絡)

    Versus what you know

    • N3「一年中」means the same, but 「を通じて」wears a suit.
    • N4「電話で連絡した」— 「で」is for a direct tool; 「を通じて」is for a person, organisation or activity in the middle.
    • The next page's 「〜を通して」means almost the same; 「を通じて」sounds a little more formal.

    Watch out

    • In ① no short time like 「今日を通じて」, and the sentence after it says something stayed the same the whole time.
    • Not for a direct, concrete tool — 「はさみを通じて切る」is wrong; that is 「はさみで切る」.

    この店では一年を通じてネパールの野菜が買える。

    このみせではいちねんをつうじてネパールのやさいがかえる。

At this shop you can buy Nepali vegetables all year round.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 一年 = one year (a long period) → we attached 「を通じて」: all year, without a break → then 買える = you can buy (always the same situation).

    私は先輩を通じて今のアルバイトを紹介してもらった。

    わたしはせんぱいをつうじていまのアルバイトをしょうかいしてもらった。

I got my current part-time job through a senior.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 先輩 = a senior (a person in the middle, not a tool) → 「を通じて」 = through them → then 紹介してもらった = they introduced me.

    地震のあと、大使館を通じて家族の無事を確認した。

    じしんのあと、たいしかんをつうじてかぞくのぶじをかくにんした。
