もし〜としても (moshi ~to shite mo) — even supposing
"Even if we suppose that" — hypothesis and concession together.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- This pattern blends Lesson 9's 「〜としたら」(supposing) and 「たとえ〜ても」(even if): 「もし合格したとしても、まだ勉強は必要だ」= even supposing I passed, I'd still need to study.
- It means "even if that supposition were true, the outcome wouldn't change".
- もし or たとえ in front makes the feeling clearer.
How to attach
- 「〜としたって」is the spoken form.
- It attaches to the plain form, with だ kept for nouns and な-adjectives: 「本当だとしても」.
