Meaning
- 「〜んです」turns a sentence into an explanation of a reason or a situation.
- A plain sentence just states a fact; 〜んです adds the feeling of "the thing is…".
- As a question, 〜んですか shows interest — "what happened?".
How to attach
- How to attach it: put んです straight onto the plain form of a verb or an い-adjective (行く → 行くんです, 痛い → 痛いんです).
- For な-adjectives and nouns you need な in between (元気だ → 元気なんです, 休みだ → 休みなんです).
- In speech it is 〜んです; in writing, 〜のです.
