Meaning
- Here it is different: a yes/no question, one with no question word, needs か どうか.
- どうか means "or not", so 来るか 来ないか is also possible, but か どうか is shorter and more common.
How to attach
- Verbs and い-adjectives stay in the plain form (普通形) (来るか どうか, 正しいか どうか).
- The だ after a な-adjective or a noun drops (暇だ → 暇か どうか).
Versus what you know
- In the previous point, a question with a question word only needed か.
- The split is easy — if 何, だれ, どこ or いつ is there, use か; if not, use か どうか.
