V dictionary form / N + の + ために、〜 (V-jisho / N no + tame ni, ~) — For the purpose of ~
The pattern for saying what you do in order to reach a goal you set yourself.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
「ために」takes the goal in front of it and the action you take for that goal behind it: 日本で 働くために、日本語を 勉強して います。 Attaching it is easy — put ために straight onto the dictionary form of the verb, and use の in between for a noun (家族の ために). The key point is this — **only a verb you do on purpose can come before ために**, and both halves must have the same subject. That is why verbs not in your hands, like 読める, 聞こえる or 忘れない, never sit there. 「ように」from Lesson 11 is the exact opposite — it takes potential forms, intransitive verbs and ない-forms, and the two halves may have different subjects. Which to pick? Use ために when the action is in your own hands. Use ように when it is not.

Question: 1/3「日本で 働く 、日本語を 勉強して います」— which fits the blank?
💡 Hint: Working is something in your own hands.
働く is an action you do on purpose, so ために is right. A potential form like 働ける would take ように instead.
