V ます-form / い-adj / な-adj + すぎます (V-masu-stem / i-adj / na-adj + sugimasu) — Too much — past the right amount
The amount has gone past what is right — and that feels bad, not good.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
「〜すぎます」says that something has gone past the limit. With a verb, drop ます and attach it (食べます → 食べすぎます). With an い-adjective drop the い (狭い → 狭すぎます), and with a な-adjective drop the な (大変 → 大変すぎます). Two traps to memorise: いい → よすぎます and ない → なさすぎます. すぎます is itself a verb, so it takes tense and the て form: 食べすぎました, 飲みすぎて. Most important of all: the feeling is always negative — never use すぎます to praise something.
