Meaning
見えます and 聞こえます mean something is visible or audible on its own — you do not try, it simply reaches your eyes or ears.
How to attach
- Both take が: 海が 見えます, 音が 聞こえます.
- The negatives are 見えません／聞こえません.
Versus what you know
- 見られます／聞けます is about opportunity instead: with a ticket you 見られます a film, with free time you 聞けます a song.
- The easy split — 見えます = you open your eyes and it is there; 見られます = you get the chance to watch.
