Potential Form & Ability
- 1 可能形（1グループ） kanoukei (1 guruupu) Potential form — Group 1 The form that says you are able to do something, for Group 1 verbs.
- 2 可能形（2グループ） kanoukei (2 guruupu) Potential form — Group 2 The form that says you are able to do something, for Group 2 verbs.
- 3 可能形（3グループ） kanoukei (3 guruupu) Potential form — Group 3 (irregular) Only two verbs, and no rule applies — you memorise them.
- 4 N が + 可能形 N ga + kanoukei を becomes が with the potential form When you use the potential form, the object particle を usually changes to が.
- 5 見えます / 聞こえます miemasu / kikoemasu Can see / can hear (naturally) Things that reach your eyes and ears without you trying.
- 6 できます dekimasu Is possible / is finished, is ready One word, two jobs — "is possible" and "is finished / is ready".
- 7 は（対比） wa (taihi) は setting two things against each other This one is like this, that one is not — は used twice.
- 8 数量 + も suuryou + mo As much as! (emphasis on quantity) も after a number adds the surprise of "that many!".
- 9 しか 〜ない shika ~nai Only this much (with a feeling of "so little") しか always takes a negative verb, yet the meaning is "only".
