Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

「のに」says "this should have been so, but it was not". How to attach: put のに straight onto the plain form (普通形) of a verb or an い-adjective (飲んだ → 飲んだのに, 安い → 安いのに). **First trap: な-adjectives and nouns turn だ into な** — 元気だ → 元気なのに, 休みだ → 休みなのに. **Second trap: のに carries a feeling.** が and けど only join two facts, but のに also shows surprise, complaint or disappointment — 「毎日 練習したのに、上手に なりません」sounds disappointed. So be careful with a boss: のに can come across as blaming them for not doing something. **Third trap: a request, an order or an invitation cannot follow のに.** ✗ 寒いのに、窓を 閉めて ください is wrong. Use から or ので there: ○ 寒いので、窓を 閉めて ください. Only a finished or present situation can follow のに. Which to pick? If you are just joining two facts, use が or けど. If you feel "but it should have been the other way!", use のに.
