When to use it
Asking for a day off, leaving early, borrowing something: this one sentence covers your whole working day.
Meaning
Adding いただけませんか to the て form of a causative gives the politest way to ask for permission — "would you let me ~?": 帰る → 帰らせる → 帰らせて → 早く 帰らせて いただけませんか.
How to attach
Once permission is granted you can say 〜せて いただきます — お先に 帰らせて いただきます.
Versus what you know
- 〜て いただけませんか from Lesson 1: 手伝って いただけませんか = would you help me? (the other person does the work)
- This point: 手伝わせて いただけませんか = would you let me help? (I do the work)
- That one small さ／せ carries the whole difference.
- The politeness ladder: 〜せて (with friends) < 〜せて ください < 〜せて いただけませんか (boss, customer).

Before いただけませんか you need the て form of the causative — 使わせる → 使わせて. The plain form, the ます stem and the た form all fail.
