V 使役形 の て-form + いただけませんか (V-sete itadakemasen ka) — Would you let me ~?

Adding いただけませんか to the て form of a causative gives the politest way to ask for permission — "would you let me ~?": 帰る → 帰らせる → 帰らせて → 早く 帰らせて いただけませんか. Line it up against 〜て いただけませんか from Lesson 1 — **手伝って いただけませんか = would you help me? (the other person does the work), 手伝わせて いただけませんか = would you let me help? (I do the work).** That one small さ／せ carries the whole difference. The politeness ladder: 〜せて (with friends) < 〜せて ください < 〜せて いただけませんか (boss, customer). Once permission is granted you can say 〜せて いただきます — お先に 帰らせて いただきます. Asking for a day off, leaving early, borrowing something: this one sentence covers your whole working day.

Before いただけませんか you need the て form of the causative — 使わせる → 使わせて. The plain form, the ます stem and the た form all fail.
