When to use it
You hear 必要が あります a lot when someone explains paperwork, visas, or a procedure at a hospital or an office.
Meaning
必要が あります describes an outside rule or situation, "this is needed".
How to attach
- For a verb, put it straight onto the dictionary form (辞書形) — 取る 必要が あります.
- For a noun, you need の — 手続きの 必要が あります.
- In the negative, は is usually used instead of が: 行く 必要は ありません (you do not need to go).
