Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- A Japanese sentence starts by saying who or what it is about, and は goes right after that word.
- Think of it as Nepali "चाहिँ" or "भनेको" — "as for …": 私は = "as for me".
- は itself never means "is" — it only points at the topic of the sentence.
How to attach
So something must always follow it: 私は学生です = "as for me, (I am) a student."
Watch out
This は is written "ha" but is always read "wa".
