Basic Identity & Introduction
- 1 Nは N wa as for N (topic) The little marker that shows who or what the sentence is about — the topic marker.
- 2 Nです N desu is N The polite word for "is / am / are" — it sits at the very end of the sentence.
- 3 Nじゃありません N ja arimasen is not N The opposite of です — the polite way to say "is not".
- 4 〜ですか desu ka is it …? (question) The easiest way to turn any sentence into a question — add か at the end.
- 5 Nも N mo N too / also The marker for "too / also" — it takes the place of は.
- 6 N1のN2 N1 no N2 N1's N2 (whose?) The の that answers "whose?" — it links two nouns with "'s / of".
