N1のN2 (N1 no N2) — N1's N2 (whose?)
The の that answers "whose?" — it links two nouns with "'s / of".
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- To say whose something is, use の — exactly like Nepali "को / की / का", English "'s".
- Besides ownership, the same の shows what something relates to: 日本語の先生 = a teacher of Japanese.
How to attach
- Owner first (N1), の in the middle, then the thing (N2): 先生の本 = the teacher's book.
- An easy way to think: "whose book?" ──> "the teacher's book" ──> 先生の本.
Watch out
The order never flips — 本の先生 would change the meaning.
Also
The の that answers "from where?" comes in Lesson 3.
