Replace a mid-sentence 「です」 with 「で」 to link one noun clause to another — e.g. gakusei desu → gakusei de, .... The final clause keeps 「です」. (Same 「で」 as na-adjectives.)

あの人は 先生で、日本人です。
ano hito wa sensei de, nihonjin desu.
That person is a teacher and is Japanese.
これは 本で、あれは ノートです。
kore wa hon de, are wa nōto desu.
This is a book, and that is a notebook.
私は ネパール人で、学生です。
watashi wa nepāru-jin de, gakusei desu.
I am Nepali and a student.
