Meaning
- "An elephant's trunk is long" — when you describe one part (trunk) of a big thing (elephant): big thing + は, part + が, then the adjective: ぞうははなが長いです.
- は says "whose we are talking about" (as for elephants) and が points at "which part" (the trunk) — one sentence, each with its own job.
How to attach
The same for places and countries: ネパールは山が高いです (In Nepal the mountains are high), 日本は電車がべんりです (In Japan the trains are convenient).
