To talk about a place, Japanese uses ここ (here — near the speaker), そこ (there — near the listener), あそこ (over there — far from both), and どこ (where — the question). They work like これ／それ／あれ／どれ, but for places. Example: ここはトイレです (koko wa toire desu) = "This is the toilet." To ask about a place, use どこ: えきはどこですか (eki wa doko desu ka) = "Where is the station?"
