ここ・そこ・あそこ・どこ (koko / soko / asoko / doko) — here / there / over there / where

The basic words for pointing out and asking about a place.

Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

ここ／そこ／あそこ + は + N + です

N + は + どこ + ですか

Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

Meaning

ここ = the place where I am standing or near me (here).
そこ = the place where you (the listener) are standing or near you (there).
あそこ = a place far from both of us (over there).
To ask "where?", use どこ.

How to attach

All of them stand alone and take は: ここはトイレです (Here is the toilet).
To ask where something is, put どこ before です: えきはどこですか (Where is the station?).

Versus what you know

これ／それ／あれ point at things; ここ／そこ／あそこ point at places.

Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

ここはトイレです。

koko wa toire desu.

This (here) is the toilet.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) The place where I'm standing ➔ ここ (here) ──> [ + は ✅ ] ──> ここは ──> [ + トイレです ] ──> ここはトイレです.

トイレはあそこです。

toire wa asoko desu.

The toilet is over there.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) The toilet is the topic ➔ トイレは ──> a place far away ➔ あそこ (over there) ──> [ + です ] ──> トイレはあそこです (the toilet is over there).

えきはどこですか。

eki wa doko desu ka.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) えきは (as for the station) ──> we don't know the place ➔ どこ (where) ──> [ + ですか ] ──> えきはどこですか (where is the station?).
