〜に／から〜をもらいます (~ ni/kara ~ o moraimasu) — receive ~ from ~

To receive something from someone, use 「〜に／から〜をもらいます」. Mark the giver with に or から (both work, "from"), the thing received with を, then もらいます (receive). Example: ともだちに本をもらいます (tomodachi ni hon o moraimasu) = "I receive a book from my friend." It is the opposite of あげます "give" — here I am the one receiving.
