Meaning
- The second family is な-adjectives: 元気 (healthy), しずか (quiet), きれい (clean / pretty), ゆうめい (famous), きらい (disliked).
- They behave like nouns.
How to attach
- At the end of a sentence just add です: 田中さんは元気です.
- No な is added here (元気なです ❌).
Watch out
- The biggest traptrap: な-adjective: きれい, ゆうめい, きらい — these three look as if they end in い, but they are な-adjectives.
- Treating them as い-adjectives and saying きれくない ❌ is the single most common mistake.
- Memorise all three right now: きれいtrap: な-adjectiveな, ゆうめいtrap: な-adjectiveな, きらいtrap: な-adjectiveな.
