ありました (arimashita) — Found it! / there it was
When you find what you were looking for, Japanese uses the past tense.

When you find the thing you were looking for, Japanese says 「ありました」— in the past. In Nepali we say "भेटियो!" or "यहाँ रहेछ!". Why the past, when you found it just now? Because the sense is "so it was here all along" — the thing was already there, and you only now know it. That is why あります (present) sounds odd here. Use に for the place: かばんの 中に ありました. For people or animals, say いました: 猫は 部屋に いました.
