自動詞 + て います(状態) (jidoushi + te imasu (joutai)) — A state that happened and still holds
The change already happened, and you can still see the result now.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When 「〜て います」goes with a 自動詞 it means "the change happened and the state still holds". 窓が 開いて います = the window opened, and it is still open now. It is not an action in progress — the opening is over, the state remains. Do not mix it up with the habit 〜て います from Lesson 3. Three meanings, told apart like this: 食べて います (他動詞) = eating right now; 毎日 勉強して います = a habit; 開いて います (自動詞) = a state. With a 自動詞 it is usually a state. This is the form you use to say "the light is on", "the door is open".

Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)
Question: 1/3Which sentence says the door is open right now (the state)?
💡 Hint: 開く is the 自動詞, 開ける is the 他動詞.
The 自動詞 開く with て います = the opening is finished and the open state remains. 「ドアを 開けて います」 would mean someone is opening the door right now.
Which 〜て います describes a state, not an action happening now?
💡 Hint: Look for the sentence with が and a 自動詞.
A 自動詞 (閉まる) with て います = a state — the window is closed. A 他動詞 (食べる, 読む, 書く) with て います = an action going on now.
Which correctly says "the light is on"?
💡 Hint: For a state, use the 自動詞 with が.
つく (自動詞) with が = a state. 電気を つけて います would mean "I am switching the light on".
