「〜て しまいます」stresses that a job is **completely done**. Plain 読みました just says "I read it"; 読んで しまいました says "I read it all the way through". It often comes with 全部・もう・すっかり. It works for the future too: 早く やって しまいましょう = "let us get it done quickly". In speech it shortens — 〜て しまう → 〜ちゃう, 〜で しまう → 〜じゃう: 読んじゃった, 食べちゃった. You will hear this with friends, but write the full form.
