When to use it
This is the sentence you will use most when you phone in late or sick.
Meaning
- 伝えます means to pass a message on.
- When you need someone to tell another person something, use 「〜と 伝えて いただけませんか」.
How to attach
- The sentence before と must be in the plain form: 遅れます → 遅れると. 休みます → 休むと.
- A noun needs だ: 休みです → 休みだと.
- Who the message goes to is marked with に, as in 「店長に」.
Versus what you know

伝えます means passing a message on, so when someone else is in between you use 「〜と 伝えて いただけませんか」.「言って いました」reports what somebody said, it does not ask for anything. 「伝えろ」is the imperative — do not say it even to a colleague. 「思います」only states your own guess.
