います is

Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

「N は 〜に います」tells where an already-known person or animal is located. The living thing is the topic, so it takes は, followed by the place + に います. e.g. 田中さんは へやに います (tanaka-san wa heya ni imasu) = 'Tanaka is in the room.' For inanimate things use あります instead.
