〜ています (-te imasu) — action in progress

The pattern for an action happening right now — "I am ~ing."

Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

V verb
te-form
います am ~ing

Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

Add います to a verb's te-form to show the action is happening right now — like English "I am ~ing." Example: 食べる → 食べて → 食べています (tabete imasu) = "I am eating." It is often used with 今 (ima, now). Plain 食べます states a habit or the future, while ています marks the action going on at this moment.
