〜てください (-te kudasai) — please do ~

The pattern for politely asking someone to do something.

Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

Verb Vて + ください

Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

Meaning

  • To ask someone politely to do something — "please …" — use the て-form + ください: 待つ ──> 待って ──> 待ってください (please wait).
  • ください by itself means "please give"; with a verb's て-form in front it means "please do that for me".

Versus what you know

For asking for a thing, use noun + をください as in Lesson 11 (おちゃをください); for an action, てください — the same ください in both.
