When to use it
- Especially in a contrast like "this I do, that I don't".
- Putting は this way in negative sentences is very common.
Meaning
- When you single out an object — "as for this one…" — は replaces を.
- おさけは飲みません (Alcohol, I don't drink), コーヒーは飲みますが、おちゃは飲みません.
Versus what you know
- Normally the thing eaten or drunk takes を (Lesson 6).
- This is the same "चाहिँ" は of Lesson 1, now on an object.
