場所を（いどう） (place + o (motion)) — through / along / out of (a place)
を marking the space you move through.

を doesn't only mark an object. With motion verbs like さんぽする, わたる, 出る, あるく, を marks the place moved through / across / out of — not an object. E.g. こうえんをさんぽします (walk through the park), はしをわたります (cross the bridge).
