お国はどちらですか (okuni wa dochira desu ka) — Where are you from?

A polite question for asking someone's country when you first meet.

Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

To ask someone "Which country are you from?" say 「お国はどちらですか」. お adds politeness, 国 (kuni) means "country," and どちら politely asks "which one" (どちら is more polite than どこ here). Answer with your country's name + です: ネパールです (nepaaru desu) = "I'm from Nepal."

Where are you from?

ネパールです。

nepaaru desu.

I'm from Nepal.

ベトナムです。

betonamu desu.

I'm from Vietnam.
