Nは ばしょです (N wa basho desu) — N is at / in [place]

A simple way to say someone or something is at a place, using です.

Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

To say where a person or thing is, you can say "N は 〈place〉 です." Here です means "is (at)." Example: 田中さんは日本です (tanaka-san wa nihon desu) = "Tanaka is in Japan." The place can also be ここ/そこ/あそこ: 先生はあそこです。 This is the easy, polite way; later you'll also learn 「〜にいます/あります」.

田中さん日本です

田中さんは日本です。

tanaka-san wa nihon desu.

Tanaka is in Japan.

先生は学校です。

sensei wa gakkou desu.

The teacher is at school.

キティさんはうちです。

kitii-san wa uchi desu.
