Meaning
To say "not very…", put あまり in front, but the ending must always be negative — this pair never breaks.
How to attach
- With an い-adjective: あまり + 〜くないです — あまりおいしくないです (not very tasty).
- With a な-adjective: あまり + 〜じゃありません.
- With a verb: あまり + 〜ません — あまり食べません (I do not eat much).
Watch out
あまり is never joined to a positive like あまりおいしいです ❌.
