Meaning
- The opposite of そうです is そうじゃありません — "no, that is not so".
- To 学生ですか (Are you a student?) you answer いいえ、そうじゃありません.
How to attach
- It is built the Lesson 1 way: drop です, add じゃありません.
- In very formal writing it becomes ではありません.
Also
You can add the correct fact after it: いいえ、そうじゃありません。お茶です。(No, it is not. It is tea.) — this sounds clearer and friendlier.
