🔒
— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:The opening 「きっと」 has already fixed the ending.
きっと pairs with に違いない (must surely be); かのようだ belongs to まるで, とは限らない to 必ずしも, だろうか to いったい・果たして.
(essay) — fill the blank.
💡 Hint:Which ending does 「なぜなら」 demand?
— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:The second sentence has 「まで」 — something even bigger is being added.
そればかりか = 'not only that', adding something bigger; それに対して contrasts, それとも offers a choice in a question, さて changes the topic.
— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:Older and younger brother — two different things face to face.
な-adj+な+のに対して = 'A is like this, whereas B'; うちに marks a change while doing something, and there is no change here; ものですから is an excuse, といえば needs the same word repeated.
Which sentence is unnatural?
💡 Hint:After giving an excuse, what may follow?
ものですから cannot be followed by a request like 「〜てください」, only by what happened (休みました); うちに+change and たきり+ない are both fine.
Which sentence is unnatural?
💡 Hint:What must sit before and after といえば?
A needs the same word twice, so 「おいしいといえば安い」 does not work; 静かなことは静かだが is correct, and 残念ながら is a fixed opener.
You phoned a friend in Nepal at New Year and have had no contact since — which fits 「_、
💡 Hint:The feeling of 'that happened once, and nothing since'.
Vた+きり+ない = nothing expected has happened since; うちに marks a change while doing, ものだから a reason, のに対して a contrast — none of which fits here.
In a document for the city office you need to write 'guidance in English as well, not only Japanese' — which form?
💡 Hint:One register per text — this document is formal.
のみならず is the formal partner of 「だけじゃなくて」, right for an official document; だけじゃなくて, はもちろん and とか all sit in the everyday column and must not be mixed into formal writing.
